Do you have to have a taipipe on a car?

Moises Rupinski: the exhaust has to extend beyond the rear axle or it can exit out the side of the vehicle.

Floy Fague: Even if it's not illegal, it's simply a very bad idea to have exhaust gasses accumulating under the vehicle. In the state I live in, the exhaust has to exit behind the passenger compartment.

Sena Highman: Well i dont have to go through emissons because its an older car but i do have to have safety

Kenneth Queener: i live near mo, and work there. you will fail inspection unless you have 1 of those shops doing your inspection.you can go with a bigger pipe and turn down behind the muffler.hell half the cars in mo dont even have a muffler.its more common to see a muffler on the roadside than a dead deer.

Chanda Wittwer: Besides maybe being illegal, it is a safety hazard. Exhaust fumes can get into your car, if the exhaust pipe exit is under the body, and burned gas is carbon monoxide. Being carbon monoxide, you won't smell it. It can! kill you and others. That is why they have the pipe going back to the back bumper. If you cut the end of the pipe near the bumper and install a turn down pipe, that would probably be okay, as long as it extends past the bumper or near the end. Check with local laws. Best to be safe....Show more

Forest Duttinger: If your state has any kind of safety or emissions inspections, the answer is no.

Dexter Dingus: just call a muffler shop and they will be able to tell you ,they have to know all the rules and regulations on exhaust systems. ok
